A Way With Wings

 Why I paint birds

For an artist who loves to paint wildlife, birds can be the ultimate challenge. We artists thrive on challenges! I’m always dreaming of my next bird painting. For me this wondrous creature represents our connection from the heavens to planet Earth.

When I’m painting birds, I need to quickly make notes about colors, shape, size and habitat. I’m lucky if I can snap a quick photo before I step on a branch and scare them away. Each species has its special characteristics which I try very hard capture in my artworks.

Raptors are majestic, Owls are elusive, Orioles and Tanagers have beautiful colors but are skittish. Then there are the birds with attitude that live on my feeders: Blue Jays; Hummingbirds; and finches of all kinds. They are happy to pose for me anytime
